HEYYYYYY there! My name is Melissa Knowles (not related to Beyonce, unfortunately) and I am ridiculously passionate about all things healthy; food and fitness and everything in between! My passion is what led me to start this blog. I really want to educate people about health and wellness, and teach them how FOOD is MEDICINE! How you fuel your body directly effects how it functions. Fuel your body well and it will function well. Fuel your body poorly and it will malfunction. Food can either heal your body of disease or cause disease. This is something that strikes so much interest with me, especially since our culture today tells us that so many processed, impure foods on the market are healthy for us, and that the only sure for disease is drug therapy. This is the point that I want to get across as FALSE to people because so many people (especially in America) believe it. Food is meant to be eaten in its whole form: whole grains, fruits, vegetables, organic grass-fed meats, nuts, seeds, and beans, and NOT highly processed foods with added sugar and a lack of nutrients. Here on the this blog, my goal is provide ways to live healthier, and show people that eating healthy doesn’t have to be gross or boring! Thank you for reading and enjoy 🙂
I am a twenty-something from Joliet, Illinois born and raised. For the past two years, I have been enrolled at Joliet Junior College, BUT, soon I will be moving to Logan, Utah to attend Utah State University where I will study to become a Registered Dietitian. Right now I am working towards a Bachelors degree, however, I want my Masters in the future. I don’t know what I want to do with my degree quite yet, but I do know that I would enjoy doing anything that pertains to nutrition.
Aside from where my education is at, I am also a runner! My love/hate affair with running began my senior year of high school. I ran track and fell in love (also hate because, well, running)! After high school I ran cross country at JJC and finished my last season with an All-American title! Now I just run random races here and there.
Another one of my favorite passions is traveling. My sister is the one who fueled my love for it. She is very well known to be going on random vacations and ridiculous road trips, and I loveeeeeee when I’m able to tag along! Her and I once drove through 9 different states in 4 days! Those trips are definitely the most memorable and the ones I look forward to the most!
On top of all of my passions, I am first and foremost a Christian, and I want to be able to incorporate my beliefs into my work with nutrition. I believe in eating the amazing foods that God placed on this earth for us to fuel our bodies with, and I believe in living an active life because God made our bodies to be MOVED! So get up and get moving!
